Monty's Crush of the Week

Yes, yes, I know, it's been rather quiet around here. Watched a couple of movies in theaters, just haven't had the time to review them. Practically pointless now, but I might anyway so you know whether or not to rent them or buy them, right? Ha. My mother's in town for a visit, so I've just been kinda busy. Anyway, with Halloween coming soon, I'm going to try to be posting a lot more here after my mom leaves this coming weekend. Here's hoping that goes as planned. In the meantime, let's get back on track somewhat with our new Crush of the Week...

Dana Barron
(He Knows You're Alone, The Brass Ring, National Lampoon's Vacation,
One Life to Live, Heaven Help Us, Death Wish 4, Heartbreak Hotel, No Means No, Crossbow,
Beverly Hills 90210, The Perfect Nanny, Stageghost, The Magnificent Seven, Python, Night Class,
Christmas Vacation 2: Eddie's Island Adventure, Pandemic, The Invited, and much more)

Dana Barron is most well-known as the original Audrey Griswold from 1983's classic comedy, "National Lampoon's Vacation". Fact is, though she has been in a lot of other stuff, I haven't seen her in much else. Only in enough to say she has aged WELL, and I don't say that often. In fact, Dana is one of those rare cases in which I have a crush on someone older than myself (about 9 years). I grew up watching the Vacation films, all of them, each with a different Audrey. The second Audrey was hilarious, the third was pretty funny in her own way, and the fourth, well, she was just kinda there, but the first, Dana Barron, she was the normal but also extremely cute one; the one I had a crush on as far back as I can remember. Years later, I remembered catching a glimpse of her in an ad for 90210. She still looked GREAT. Years after that, I rented a movie called Stageghost. Turned out to be more of a western than a ghost movie. Or was it? Honestly, it was still quite a while back, so I don't totally remember much about it. I just remember it was odd to see a direct to video cowboy movie, and it was still kinda decent, but mostly I watched the whole thing because Dana was in it and still fully droolworthy. I also remember I was munching on Buzz Lightyear cereal as I watched it, dry out of the box. Man, that cereal had two types of pieces, and while one was sweet and crunchy, the other (the all purple pieces) tasted like Play-Doh! Still, that was a fun night. I can't honestly say I've seen any of Dana's other work, but she left quite the impression on me in that first Vacation film. Yeah, she was very young in it, but so was I when I first watched it (probably in theaters when it came out). Now, 10 years ago, Dana reprised her role as Audrey Griswold. I haven't seen that one yet. It was in "Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure", and it's supposed to be pretty terrible (and not really very Christmassy). Still, I will surely own it eventually. I mean, it's a Vacation movie (to some degree), it's got Christmas in the title, and most importantly, it's got Dana, still a dreamgirl after all these years!

  1. They have been running Vacation over and over today and it had me wondering what ever happened to the actress Dana Barron so I did an IMDB search and a few web searches and was rather amazed at her body of work since the Vacation days. I certainly did not know that she had appeared in a second one. I too will have to look it up. It also appears that since the re-airing of Vacation this holiday season new post about her have been appearing everywhere. Even a new youtube site within the last 3 days. Any way I saw your post and though I would comment as well. I would have to agree she's still quite special indeed,
