Monty's Crush of the Week

Now, let's get to a Crush of the Week I've been itchin' to post since "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." premiered in late September. One of two, actually. It's gonna be Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. week twice in a row here at the Moonlight Motel!

Elizabeth Henstridge
(Easy Under the Apple Bough, Hollyoaks, And the Kid, Shelter, The Thompsons,
Gangs of Tooting Broadway, Delicacy, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Reach Me)

Ya know, it's been interesting doing this Crush of the Week feature. It's shown me something to be very true. Some women seem to come off better in photos, some come off better in motion picture format. I tend to trust the moving image more. I see it as... well... some girls I've found GORGEOUS in real-life whom I wouldn't have recognized by (nor been too impressed by) many of their favorite photographs. And, with these weekly postings, I've found some of the celeb girls I find gorgeous onscreen don't have a heck of a lot of photos floating about that I like either, particularly the ones that SHOULD be great, the professional photo shoot photos. In fact, as was the case with lovely Elizabeth here, they might look gorgeous in all their candid and red carpet photos, it's just those professional photos that just aren't doing right by these beauties. I finally had to settle on this Entertainment Weekly pic above, as much as I hate to use pics with text on them. This one, at least, is a nice photo of her, but even that one doesn't do her justice compared to how jaw-droppingly beautiful Elizabeth is every week on Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.", and here's a still from the show that I found online to prove my point:

In regards to what I was saying, one thing I realized with Elizabeth here, and this isn't all of it, but a big part of it is the sleepy-eyed thing she does in professional photos. I don't know why a lot of people think that's sexy. Give me the bright-eyed look every time, like in the pic above! Gorgeous!

Anyway, Elizabeth is just getting rolling on what surely will be a big career, but for now, the beautiful British actress is gaining a huge comic geek-fanbase by playing Agent Jemma Simmons, one of a pair of scientists onboard with the rest of Coulson's new team on the unanimously cool but simultaneously just so-so (so far) television series spin off of the Avengers feature film and Marvel Cinematic Universe. And let me add that one of the things that increases how appealing Elizabeth's character is on the show is her bubbly personality. The two scientists (the other being a Scottish guy) are two of a kind. They're sort of the comic relief, aside from Coulson being his overly benign and mellow self, though it's a bit of a one-note joke that no one else "gets" the two science nerds, who are sort of in their own world. I've often complained a bit myself about how difficult they can be to understand when they start talking to each other at high-speed too, ha. But they ARE successfully adorable and charming, and Elizabeth as Jemma makes me drool every time. And this "Crush of the Week" is getting a bit lengthy too, ha, sorry. Suffice to say I like the show, but they chose to have some surprisingly cookie-cutter, 2-dimensional characters, and I really hope they get fleshed out a lot more and as quickly as possible to keep the show going (more cameos would be good too, though of course they shouldn't be the focus of the show, but yes, Sam Jackson has appeared as Fury once already, if VERY briefly). And, focusing on Elizabeth here, I'll throw in one other "professional photo I rather like enough to add here, and it's one of the promo shots she did for the show. Actually, I was torn between starting with the Entertainment Weekly photo or this one (I do like this one better; maybe it should have won out). I love her outfit in this one! Particularly the jeans and shoes, I'd rather see a Star Wars or other geek T-shirt rather than a blouse and jacket, but it's still a cute outfit as is. Wow, I'm rambling tonight...
