Yes, we've had another delay with this feature. Give me a break, my mom's been visiting.
Anyway, here it is, back again, Monty's Crush of the Week...
(Lola: Erase una vez, Amores verdaderos, Casi treinta, From Dusk Till Dawn the Series)
I don't know how many of you are aware of it, but there's this new television network geared towards Hispanic audiences called El Rey. It's basically Robert Rodriguez's own TV network, and one of the premiere shows on that network has been "From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series", a show based on the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino vampire collaboration that hit theaters in 1996. The feature film, which had an instant cult following, starred George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, and a handful of others, including Salma Hayek as the seductive vampire stripper, Santánico Pandemónium. On the television show, that small but unforgettable role was expanded significantly and given to popular Mexican actress/singer Eiza González.
Now, the only opinions I've gotten on this television version of "From Dusk Till Dawn", other than my own and those of one of my best friends, Fish (who just saw a couple of episodes), have come from a podcast that's been posted regularly at thecinemasnob.com, and while Fish and I really enjoyed the show, the guys over there have had mixed reactions. I can't say their complaints aren't often justified, but personally, I think the show is extremely enjoyable overall (granted, they seemed to change their tune towards the end of the first season, but I haven't heard their comments on the final episode). D.J. Cotrona channels George Clooney disturbingly well. Seriously. You'll do a double-take. But, one of the highlights for me most definitely is Eiza González. I'll state the complete opposite of what you'll hear on the Snob's podcast. I would take Eiza over Salma Hayek ANY DAY. Nothing against Hayek, but Eiza is just waaay more to my tastes.
Here in the States though, most of us had never heard of her until now. As it turns out, she started out, from the impression my research gives me, as... basically the Mexican Hannah Montana. Thankfully, she does not seem to be turning into the Mexican Miley Cyrus...
So, a big thanks to Robert Rodriguez for bringing this stunning talent to our attention, and she probably won't be my only crush from the new Dusk Till Dawn series in days to come. Of course, I have no idea how well the show is doing, but regardless, it seems to have been renewed for a second season. And why not? It's Rodriguez's channel, after all. Anyway, enjoy a few more pics of Eiza below, and I'll catch ya next time!
PS: I'm still planning on doing a full, picture-loaded report on my December Disney vaction. But, I've been thinking about making it a sorta Christmas in July kinda thing. Laters!
